Changing Your Life and Achieving Your Goals

From the day we are born, we are continually being set up for success. From our parents as they teach us basic skills and about the world around us, to teachers who need to make sure we know as much as possible to gain the skills for the future. Everything we do is geared to help you make a success of your life.

At some point, you will need to take the helm and be in control of your own successes. To build on the knowledge imparted on you and turn it into something you are proud of and in turn makes others proud of you too.

Regardless of what area of your life you want to be a success in, you should always strive to be more and do more until you reach your life goal.

Let’s start small. How can you eliminate negativity from your life to help you become the best version of yourself?

Start the Day Right.

Don’t hit that snooze button, get up and get your day started. It is well known that successful people start their day early! Some even before 6 am.

Get yourself a suitable breakfast – you need to be well fueled for a busy day ahead of you. Workout if this is something you feel you want to do in the morning and prepare yourself for the day ahead.

Plan your day, get organised and familiarise yourself with what you have to do so your mind knows what to expect. This will boost your chance of success before you even leave the house.

Create New Habits.

We are all familiar with giving up things that are bad for us come New Year or Lent. But how do you create new habits? Sure old habits can be hard to break. But with perseverance and determination, you can bite the bullet and goodbye to your vices with time.

Creating a new habit takes over 60 times of doing something regularly before it becomes something you do automatically without thinking about it.

Nothing becomes a habit instantly. So give yourself the time to adapt to new changes and implement different things in your life. Because once you form a new good habit, pretty soon you will be doing it without thinking about it!

Positive Mental Attitude

If you don’t think you will succeed, chances are you won’t! It really is as simple as that. Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be lucky all the time or be in the right place at the right time?

It is all down to having a positive attitude. Know what you want and tell yourself you can and you will get it. Be it in your personal or professional life. Negativity breeds negativity as they say so banish those negative thoughts and change your mindset.

As silly as this may sound, being able to visualise and think something into reality, it really does work. Surround yourself with those who are on board with you becoming a better version of yourself and want to help you get to where you are going.

Make a Solid Plan.

All the best ideas start with a solid plan. You need to know what exactly you want to do and how you are going to get there.

Don’t be afraid of failing or falling off plan. Nothing is set in stone and as you change, so may your goals and aspirations. This is normal and doesn’t mean any efforts have been in vain. Far from it.

No matter what your plan is or even was, you will have learnt something valuable along the way even if it is that you need to change your plan.

Take the plunge, write the plan, detail how you are going to put it into action and don’t be afraid to follow what you want. Successes and failures are part of the journey and will be beneficial to you. Just remember – the journey is just as important as the destination!

Save The Money

Following your dreams does not come cheap. Before you even put your plan into action you need to think about how you are going to be able to afford to do this financially.

It may be that you need to put it on the back burner for a while until you have saved some money to help you move forward. Start a savings plan and put as much money away as you can afford, especially if you will need to take a pay cut to follow your goals or even reduce your hours at work.

Creating a nest egg to fall back on will give you a safety net for any unforeseen issues that may arise.

Make A Commitment.

Be it to education to fulfil career goals or making changes to your personal life to help you transform how you are living and on a more general day to day basis.

Committing to a career change can involve giving up huge chunks of your time to be able to realise your dream. Much in the same way as changing your mindset will require you to make conscious decisions that will benefit your life.

Restarting education around your other commitments, such as an existing job and your family can be a juggling act. This is why many people choose to learn online. It allows you a greater degree of flexibility as you don’t need to commute to a classroom or place of study.

If you are looking at starting a new degree course, for example, online social work degree programs, you will benefit from making sure you can realistically fit this into your schedule. These tips should help;

  • Set a schedule and stick to it
  • Use up small pockets of time to study
  • Try to block your days eg, setting specific days for specific jobs so you don’t get distracted during study times
  • Get friends and family members to help you.
  • Remind yourself regularly why you are doing this and visualise your life once you get to your goal

Communicate Clearly

Being able to effectively express yourself and build a rapport with others is essential for you to be able to work effectively with others.

Clear and precise communication skills will help you reach your goal and eliminate any crossed wires. For those lacking in confidence, you may find it beneficial to get extra assistance to help you efficiently communicate with others to help realise your dream.

In business, communicating with others is something you will need to do on a regular basis so being able to discuss your career plans and network with those who can assist you with your goals is something you shouldn’t avoid. In fact, good communication skills can help you in all areas of your life, not just at work.

Remove Temptation

Stop procrastinating and get the work done. Remove the temptation from your life by taking it out of the equation. If you know you are easily distracted, then take proactive measures to remove any temptations that will stop you from getting to your final destination.

Be it people, your mobile phone, streaming services or anything else. If it takes your attention from what you are needing to do – especially if you need to study, then you need to find a way to make sure you don’t allow this to happen.

Make Time To Relax.

This is at odds to pretty much the rest of this article but you need to make sure you aren’t burning yourself out.

If you are scheduling your time and your days, then make sure you allow yourself time to wind down. Whatever works for you is essential so you don’t become lost amidst the business of achieving your goal. So go socialise, take a long hot bath, plan a weekend away or simply get comfy with a good book. If it helps you relax, you need it in your life!

But What Do You Do When You Achieve Your Goal?

Do you sit back and rest on your laurels? You should start with being proud you made it to where you wanted to go. However, it doesn’t stop there.

You need to stay in the top of your game and this means;

  • Staying on top of developments in your sector
  • Networking to open yourself up to new opportunities
  • Adapting to new skills
  • Creating a new goal

The hard part is not falling back into your old ways once you get to where you are going. Keeping newly formed habits and changes in your life can only be a positive thing and will help you to keep doing and achieving more.

Look for further career advances where you can put all your efforts to good use. Or maybe even change your career! Find a way to improve other areas of your life. Whatever you do, don’t give up now!
