Writing a great press release is integral for any business. It is this that will enable you to spread the word about a new service or product that you offer and hopefully drum up new customers for you. A press release is vital as it is what will be sent out to members of the press that they will then hopefully publish in their magazine or website. By doing so, you hope to attract new customers and also remind existing ones about you and make them aware of your news or offers. Whether you are an entrepreneur such as David Sherrer or you own a large company, a press release will always be something that you need. These are some top tips for writing a great press release…
Ensure you have an interesting header
Your header is the very first thing that the journalist is going to read and therefore you need it to be snappy. They likely receive hundreds of similar emails per day and it is vital that yours stands out. Keep your header short, to the point and include any key facts that they might need to know. This way it will stand out in their inbox and have a higher chance of being seen and therefore published.
Attach images with your press release
If a journalist is looking to publish your story and is on a deadline, the last thing they want is to have to email you and wait for you to send images over. These might then need resizing before adding and it all takes time. By adding your images initially they can easily add them in and don’t get put off by having to spend time chasing you.
Keep it to the point
It’s important that you don’t waffle too much in a press release. You want to start by including all of the main relevant information and then adding in additional details further down. Make sure you are to the point and break it up into plenty of sections. You don’t want your press release to be one large block of text. Stick to the point you are trying to make and include all the info such as dates, times and locations if this is applicable.
Don’t forget to include your contact details
This is an important one! As well as details such as the date, time and location of your product launch or announcement, you need to add in a way for the reader to contact you. Ensure you put your name, telephone number, address and email address in the footer as well as any relevant social media links that you might need.
These are just a few tips for writing a great press release. By ensuring you have a solid release you can make it easier to attract new customers and incentivise existing customers with offers.
